Google CEO Sundar Pichai had no reassuring words for employees about the potential layoffs at a recent all-hands meeting. When asked about potential layoffs, Pichai made it clear that he was not in a position to commit ahead of time on the matter because the future is hard to predict. Pichai also mentioned that Google is making changes to “weather the storm” of the economy, but did not rule out the possibility of cuts in the future.
According to a Business Insider report, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “What we’ve been trying to do, and you’ve seen the news over the last many, many months, is that we’re trying to make important decisions and be disciplined. , prioritizing where we can, rationalizing where we can so that we’re better prepared to weather the storm, no matter what’s ahead… I think that’s where we should focus and try to do our best there,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
Last month, it was announced that Google plans to lay off 10,000 employees through a new evaluation and performance improvement plan. According to a report in The Information, this is due to activist hedge fund pressure, adverse market conditions and the need to cut costs. However, it is still unclear whether Google has started the process of laying off employees or is still trying to weather the storm without cutting the workforce.
